Basic Equipment

If you have been playing for a little while and would like to get your own equipment, here is a guide to help you with a few suggestions.

Mask

Your mask should have a soft silicone skirt, (not pvc). Established makes such as Cressi, Mares, Oceanic, Aquasphere, Technisub, Aqualung usually are the best bet but any mask that fits well is good enough to start with . It is important that your mask is comfortable and fits you. Put your mask on your face, no strap,  and breathe in through your nose - it should grip your face, if not choose another mask. If you are going to buy a new mask it should have dual lenses as in the pictures but if you have a mask that fits and is watertight it will be ok. You can find masks on Ebay but children need a junior mask or at least a small and  you cannot try these on to make sure they fit.

Fins

These should be full foot, or pool fins and for beginners be made of softer rubber or plastic. Fins are usually worn with a pair of socks to prevent rubbing.

Closed foot finopen foot 2

They should not be either open foot or bodyboard fins

Gloves

Any gloves will do as a starting glove as it is just mainly for stopping the damaging your knuckles. An average gardening glove or a goalkeeper glove are prime examples of a brilliant starting glove. A glove is only necessary for your playing hand.
